Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC)

The world’s forests play a critical role by contributing to a better global environment, a healthier population and a dynamic economy. They help alleviate the effects of climate change and contain some of the richest bio-diverse areas on Earth. In addition to providing food and livelihoods for millions of people, they are also a source of natural and renewable raw materials for a large and growing range of forest products from constructional timber, to natural fibres for textiles. Crucially, at a time when global interest in sustainable alternatives to plastics has never been higher, renewable and recyclable paper-based packaging will prove a vital material, as business moves towards a wider circular economy. However, it is important those switching to paper board can be confident that the materials they specify are legally and responsibly sourced, and this is where PEFC can help.

PEFC is the world’s leading forest certification system (62% of certified forests are PEFC-certified) and the preferred choice of small and family-forest owners. PEFC operates both locally (53 national members) and globally, with stakeholders representing social, environmental and economic sustainability pillars. PEFC promotes sustainable forest management through certification. This means we can continue to benefit from the many products that forests provide, while ensuring these forests will be around for generations to come. PEFC’s distinctive ‘two trees’ label is proof that a product has been responsibly sourced.

Valpak is the UK's leading environmental compliance scheme, managing the recycling obligations of over 5,000 UK businesses under producer responsibility laws.

As the first scheme established to help businesses comply with the Packaging Waste Regulations in 1997, We have grown to become the UK’s leading packaging compliance scheme, with a 50% share of the market. We now also offer compliance to producers under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations and the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations.

Valpak has been offering services to customers in the UK and beyond to support them on producer responsibility legislation for 20 years. The requirement for business to report on EPR and compliance issues has grown over the years and now covers issues such as packaging, waste electrical and electronics, batteries but also includes modern slavery, chemicals, energy and waste.

Most of this work requires expert support and advice on legislation, data collection and reporting, scoping problems and delivering auditable results. Valpak is an expert in this field and we work with our customers to enable them to do what they do best, by doing what we do best.

We have invested in organisational capability to add value through delivering flexible solutions. At Valpak we believe that we provide clear solutions to complex sustainability problems. Many of our customers agree by scoring us consistently over 95% in satisfaction surveys.
